In a press conference on Thursday, Jamie Richards showed the four available titles that competitors in PURE will be able to wrestle for when they sign the dotted line.

After being impressed by the recent ladies who have engaged in try-outs, Richards confirmed there would be a Ladies Division, with a single title belt for the females to vie for. Known as the Ladies OpenWeight Championship, the title belt, finished with a bright pink touch, will be the biggest prize for the women.

For the men, three titles will be at stake. The green emerald encrusted Tag Team Championships, the silver/platinum title known as the WorldWide OpenWeight Championship, and the main title known as the PURE Ultimate Heavyweight Championship, a 24 carat gold title belt.

PURE’s CEO, Jamie Richards, today held a pre-PURE tryout card at the Billingham Arena in a talent scouting exhibition. Twenty young hopefuls participated in the show, attended by approximately 150 local fans.

In the opening bout, billed as battle of promising high-flyers, Greg Smith defeated Pally-O-Pal via a 450 Splash. Before the match, Pally showed his ‘ability’ on the microphone to insult those in attendance stating that his 13 A-Levels would be enough to outsmart his opponent into a physical and a pyschological victory. However, Smith – who hailed from Billingham – was able to match his own in the opening minutes of the match. But a cheap shot in the corner when the referee tried to separate the two gave Pally an opening to wear down his foe. Pally connected with a series of sick looking clotheslines and suplexes and scored many near falls. His over-confidence almost caught him out when Greg locked in a small package, which Pally only just kicked out of. Ultimately his over-confident approach did catch him out. After missing a top rope moonsault, Smith was able to climb to the top turnbuckle and nail as sweet a 450 Splash as you ever would see to give him a 3 count victory. Post match Pally took to the microphone stating that the best thing about coming to Billingham was leaving Billingham. Pally didn’t even return to the locker-room – he marched straight out the front door!

Up next was a tag-team contest between two sets of brothers: The Lost (Jared and Jerry Wilson) took on The Krows (Andy and Kris). With potentially so much at stake both teams started the match in such a chaotic manner, that eventually the referee called for the bell. But instead of stopping the match, the referee had decided that enough was enough and turned the standard tag team match into a Tornado Tag Team match making the chaos entirely legal! Eventually, The Krows double team backfired, leading to Andy being tossed out of the ring and leaving Kris easy prey for The Lost to hit The Recovery Desk to score their team the pin.

If any one man made a big impact at the tryouts, then it was definitely the man they called ‘The Beast’. Paul O’Donovan came out full of energy but one swift boot to the face later it was all but over for him as Danny Dread pounded him from corner to corner before finishing him off in a move replicating the F5. Post match Dread announced that the move was called the G6 because it’s ‘one better than the F5 in every aspect’.

Up next on the card was the only ladies match of the evening. It was battled between France’s Madame Bee, Germany’s Sabine and representing England, Foxy. The three women put on decent performances all around and will have given Jamie Richards food-for-thought about whether or not PURE will have a ladies division. Several spots caught the eye, including a Clothelines/Hurricanrana combo which brought all in the arena to their feet. At the end though, it was Madame Bee waving the French flag high in victory. Foxy and Sabine tried to double suplex the French Wench, but Bee landed on her feet on the otherside, and snapped both women down with a double neckbreaker. As Foxy rolled out the ring in some pain, Bee dragged Sabine to the corner to nail a vicious looking Spike Tornado DDT which was sufficient to gain a three count.

In the following interval, Jamie Richards hit the ring to announce that when PURE was officially up and running, PURE would return to Billingham for one of their shows.

Post-interval, it was action again. Two more young talents met in one of the most technical matches of the evening where it was evident that both stars had done their homework as Karl Kraze was pitted against Evenflow Eddie (trained by legendary wrestler, Raven). Reversal after reversal occurred, with little offensive moves being able to be inflicted. Therefore, it was only natural for the verdict to be from a reversal of such. Karl went for a powerbomb, which Eddie tried to reverse into a Hurricanrana. When that was blocked, Eddie spun himself around on Karl’s shoulders and went for a Victory Roll, but Kraze stepped into the move resulting in a winning pinfall.

Local rivals from a local federation took to the ring next, as WEW stars Vincent D White and Mike Lovejoy met in a blood-driven match. As the crowd were beginning to take the match, another star jumped the rail and with the referee distracted, nailed White in the back with a chair. As this unknown star ducked down to avoid the referee’s notification, White riled in pain towards Lovejoy, who connected with a sweet looking Superkick to gain the pinfall. Post match so Jamie Richards came out again and identified the unknown man to the crowd as another WEW star – KAOS. And since KAOS was here and wanted to be involved in a PURE match, Richards placed an enraged KAOS into the following match… and also made it No DQ!

This meant that the following scheduled bout between Justin Spire and Teddy X was now a Triple Threat match. At first the two teamed together to battle the WEW invader, but eventually KAOS‘s experience caught up with them and he out fought the numbers game. KAOS then took the No DQ to the extreme as he introduced trash cans, stop signs and tables to the match. The latter of which was used in the decisive fall of the match. With KAOS crotched on the top rope and a table set up in the centre of the ring, Teddy and Justin agreed to double suplex him through the wood. However, whilst Justin went all the way though with the move, Teddy held on to the top rope and watched as both Justin and KAOS crashed through the wood sending splinters and wood shavings all over the place. Teddy then pulled KAOS out of the rubble placed him on another table and hit a high flying splash through it for the victory.

Finally, to complete the card, reigning BCW UK Champion ‘The Canadian Force’ Lance Hayden met Slingshot Stevie Sullivan with the title on the line in a special Submission Match (due to a prior agreement between PURE and BCW). The two experienced stars put on undoubtedly the match of the evening. The two battled in the ring, out the ring and even – at one time – outside the arena in the car park! The match alone was worth the fans’ admission rate. And when all was said and done, it was Lance Hayden who locked in the Sharpshooter. Sullivan fought bravely, but like many others had done before him, was forced to tap out. Post match saw both men shake hands. And just as they were about to leave the ring, Richards appeared again, and announced that at the next PURE houseshow, Hayden and Sullivan would main event again… this time in tag team warfare against The Lost. Richards then thanked the audience for coming and told them to keep belief in PURE and they will be rewarded in the long run.

Quick Results

Greg Smith beat Pally-O-Pal in 7:02 via pinfall after 450 Splash.
The Lost beat The Krows in 10:21 via pinfall after The Recovery Desk (Jared pinned Kris).
‘The Beast’ Danny Dread beat Paul O’Donovan in 2:47 via KO after hitting a G6.
‘The French Wench’ Madame Bee beat Foxy and Sabine in 8:20 via pinfall after Tornado DDT (Bee pinned Sabine).
Karl Kraze beat Evenflow Eddie in 8:14 via a Victory Roll.
Mike Lovejoy beat Vincent D White in 5:58 via a Superkick.
Teddy X beat KAOS and Justin Spire in 14:44 via Splash through a table.
‘The Canadian Force’ Lance Hayden beat Slingshot Stevie Sullivan in 21:04 via submission after locking in the Sharpshooter to retain his UK Championship.
